Across the board, Firriato wines are well constructed, and this is no exception. Full, ripe dark fruit, dried herbs and some chalk come at you before the barest hints of barrel aromas. The flavors are intense - raisins, prunes, dark berries - in a smooth texture. The tannins are still exercising their grip, but are offset by lively acidity. This has depth without over-extraction or contrived complexity. Well above the recent run of Nero d'Avolas that have made this Sicily's "signature" grape.
