92 Points | Stephen Tanzer's IWC - May/June 2013

(includes 12% petite sirah; 15.7% alcohol and a pH of 3.51; made from fruit picked on September 22 and 26, before the major rainstorms of early October):  Full ruby.  Heady, explosively perfumed aromas of candied black and blue fruits, incense and licorice, with a powerful spicy topnote.  Sappy and palate-coating, offering ripe dark fruit and floral flavors and showing a smooth, velvety texture.  Closes broad and very long, with lingering spiciness and soft tannins.  Excellent value here.
