(made from 60% syrah and 40% merlot; 13.8% alcohol): Bright purple. Assertive aromas of black and blue fruits, cracked pepper, olive and potpourri, with a smoky overtone. Leading strongly with its syrah right now. Sweet and chewy on the palate, offering sappy cherry and blueberry flavors and hints of candied flowers and bitter chocolate. The spicy note repeats on an impressively long, sharply focused finish shaped by dusty, fine-grained tannins. (JR)
