91(+?) Points | Stephen Tanzer's IWC - July/August 2013

(14% alcohol):  Vivid ruby-red.  Slightly high-toned, inviting aromas of dark cherry, strawberry, minerals and lavender, with a hint of game emerging with aeration.  Then juicy, tight and precise, with impressive energy to its deep dark fruit flavors complicated by a hint of candied violet.  Sound acids and firm tannins give this wine serious structure but there's also lots of creamy fruit for early appeal.  Finishes with lingering floral and vanilla notes.  This spent 38 months in tonneaux but has the fruit to handle all that oak.
