About Chateau de la Maltroye
Old-timers in Chassagne remember times when the wines and vineyards here weren't nearly so coveted. When the Cournut family purchased the estate in 1940, the 6.5 acre plot behind the house was a vegetable garden. Today, the beautiful vines that run 200 meters down the hill behind the Chateau make up the priceless Maltroye 1er Cru holding, offering wines that sell for $70-$100/bottle.
93-95 Points | Stephen Tanzer's IWC - September/October 2013
(just a single new barrel of this juice): Very ripe, sexy aromas of pineapple and clove. In a more fruity style than the Dent de Chien, with the bracing pineapple flavor intensified by lively acidity. Shows its grand cru saline complexity and structure on the very long, lively pineapple-and-crushed-stone finish. Superb lift here.
