89 Points | International Wine Cellar , November/December 2013

(66% syrah, 19% petite sirah and 15% grenache; 40% new French and American oak):  Inky ruby.  Smoky aromas of cherry, vanilla and oak spices, with a hint of tobacco emerging with air.  Chewy, sweet and herb-tinged, offering bitter cherry and dark berry flavors and a touch of cracked pepper.  Dusty tannins give grip to the clinging finish.  There's something vaguely cabernet-like about this wine, but obviously there's none in the blend.

Here, steep, terraced vineyards help produce full-bodied, intense, tannic wines loaded with white pepper and red fruit. In the vineyard, Syrah is largely cooperative- vines are productive, but not overly vigorous. Skins are thick, helping the grape...
