(14.5% alcohol):  Bright, dark red.  Very sweet, enticing aromas of red cherry, raspberry jam, cinnamon and marzipan.  Sweet, dense and silky, with lovely life to the rich, ripe red cherry and red berry jam flavors.  Finishes pure and very long, with a mineral nuance and melting tannins.  This opulent, almost Amarone-like red handles its 14.5% alcohol gracefully and doesn't come across as hot or heavy.  Nero d'Avola and Sicilian red wine do not get much better than this, although those who prefer their reds bone-dry might be less enthusiastic than I.

About Italy

Italy, like France, offers a world of wine styles within a single country: dry Italian white wines ranging from lively and minerally to powerful and full-bodied; cheap and cheerful Italian red wines in both a cooler, northern style and a richer, warmer southern style; structured, powerful reds capable of long aging in bottle; sparkling wines; sweet wines and dessert wines.
