($55) Light yellow with a strong bead. Fresh lemon and orange aromas are complemented by smoky lees and toasted nuts. Pliant, gently creamy citrus and pear flavors are underscored by tangy minerality, which adds lift and cut. A hint of herbs comes up on the nicely focused, spicy finish.

an intense beam of lemon-pith and mineral toned acidity power the flavors of this excellent brut. The acids are so brilliantly focused it nearly numbs the tip of your tongue. Plenty of balancing cream and toast flavors, the main feature of this wine is the sheer intensity. Appears somewhat rough-hewn in contrast to the Billecart Salmon NV Brut. 94 POINTS. 2-16-2001

In fact, these grapes are widely referred to as "international" varieties because they have been planted and imitated all over the world.
