Laurent-Perrier is a giant in Champagne, which has blazed a trail both in the cellar and on the international market. Founded in 1812 by Alphonse Pierlot, Laurent-Perrier has passed through the hands of only three proprietors—all families—since its inception.

($35) Shy nose hints at apple skin, pear, minerals and stone before closing down in the glass. Concentrated and densely packed, with youthfully disjointed flavors of apple skin, caraway seed, flowers, spices and nut skin. Shows the thickness and slightly edgy quality of so many 1995s.
