87-88 Points | International Wine Cellar , May/June 1999

Good ruby-red. Cooler aromas of cherry, redcurrant, iodine, licorice and mint; this is more red fruit, while the '95 Napa bottling is more black. Supple and lush on entry but with only moderate depth of flavor; I find slightly edgy acids and a green quality. Lacks a bit of verve.

2/01: Full ruby-red color. Aroma of cassis and blackberry jam. American oak is well integrated with a solid core of fruit. Wonderful balance here and a long, lingering finish. I did not want to like this wine, but it is an excellent cab and one I would not hesitate to rebuy at $50. Did not display any of the lightness I had recently detected in a couple of other 95's recently drunk (Stonestreet and Cain Five). I have one bottle left and will drink it over the next 3-4 years. This is not meant for a long sleep in the cellar, IMO (although WS did call it a cellar selection) Greg Mitrakas Marlboro, MA

Very nice cab, but not as good as the hype. I was expecting a little more. Probably needs more time in the cellar.

This wine seemed a little tight, but there were some nice flavors of anise and tabacco softened by American oak. Might be better in a couple of years.
Another great cab...

Silver Oak is about as steady as an oak...never tasted any yet that's let me down...
