Medium red-ruby, with some amber at the rim. Currant, mocha and smoke aromas, along with a pronounced weedy, vegetal element. Offers only modest texture and ripeness in the mouth; I don't find a lot of flavor development here. Finishes with light but slightly drying tannins. A bit tart throughout.

I strongly disagree with the slam on this wine. Agreed that it is not up to the 96 S.O.A.V. Cab - but weak? I don't think so. We shared this on Friday but let it open for a time in the duck. The flavors were well defined with currant, mocha and a touch of charcoal or wood smoke in the nose. Good finish with light tannins for such a young wine. 4 stars is appropriate. The question is: will it cellar? Will four years perhaps have an impact the slight tartness?

For all of you wine lovers out there, I urge you to stay away from this Silver Oak. I'm a huge fan of this vineyard, but their '98 is so weak and disappointing. I was craving for more depth and power. Vegetable-like and light. Not even worth $25 - and you'll not find it for less then $50, so stay away.

Has the markings of the vintage, diluted, under-ripe, vegetal and just not enjoyable. Don't waste time and $ here,
