About Araujo Estate

Since 1990, Bart and Daphne Araujo have carried on the tradition of making monster Cabernets from the Eisele Vineyard, adding Syrah into the mix as well. Their flagship bottling is dense, powerful and rich, typically with soil-inflected notes of plum, mocha, tobacco and smoke, and very suave tannins.

92-95 Points | Stephen Tanzer's IWC - May/June 1999

Deep ruby-red. High-pitched, slightly floral aromas of black raspberry, plum, lead pencil and a hint of chocolate. Great velvety sweetness and ripeness in the mouth; enticing game and mocha notes complement the dark berry fruit. Already shows impressive incipient complexity and a seamless texture. Very long and very subtle, with finishing fruit obscuring the wine firm tannic structure.

Mature and delicious

Seamlessly integrated and smooth with none of the oaky edge aparent in its youth, the 1997 is drinking beautifully. Dark berry fruit with hints of chocolate and a touch of mint. The finish is long and mouthfilling without being heavy. This lovley, mature cabernet makes you want just one more glass when the bottle is empty!
Liquid Velvet

I had this wine in its youth (2002) and could not believe how evolved it was, how balanced, how silky the tannins were for such a young, vibrant wine. The complexity of the blueberry, blackberry, and mocha flavors was incredible as they all intertwined over a minute-plus finish.

From Mount St. Helena to the city of Napa, the valley is defined by two north-south ridgelines of the Coast Range Mountains.

Varietal Image
Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon built its reputation on Bordeaux's Left Bank. Here, in the district of Medoc, the varietal is the key component of blended wines that also may include some Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and even Malbec and Petit Verdot. Moving slightly south, Cabernet Sauvignon meets Merlot in roughly equal proportions in the red wines of Graves. In both of these Bordeaux regions, the top bottles...
