1974 Heitz Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Martha's Vineyard Napa Valley

There are times when one tastes Heitz Martha's only to find funkiness and little or no fruit. Both Heitz wines tasted here had plenty of fruit, and the funkiness now melded with the fruit is complex and aromatic. 1974 has always been my favorite vintage of Heitz Martha's and this was a great showing for the wine. Deep ruby color with a thin mahogany rim, it has the tell-tale nose of wintergreen mint, lavender and dark slightly jammy fruit. Given its opulence, the wine is in perfect balance, and its finish is long and very complex. This glorious wine will probably drink beautifully for another decade. 97 points
