90 Points | Stephen Tanzer's IWC - May 2009

Good deep ruby-red. Superripe aromas of black raspberry, tar and damp earth, with a distinct liqueur-like quality. Superrich, fat and thick, with smoky oak supported by strong extract. I found an intriguing note of dark soy but limited nuance. The texture is remarkably plush, but this rather monolithic wine verges on heavy. Finishes with substantial broad tannins. This bottle seems full mature. I suspect that this estate's more recent wines will age more gracefully thanks to a more moderate new oak component.
