Cabbage-like and oxidized. These two wines, which were impressive if superripe on release, have clearly failed the test of time. Winemaker Sophie Estevenin noted that she picked jammy, overripe fruit without enough tannic support (sounds like some of those 16.5% Australian shirazes!) and may not have used enough SO2 She notes that she did better in 1999, 2000 and 2001, but especially from 2002 forward, as she had more experience by then (her first vintage was 1996) and better equipment.
