($55) Pale color. Musky, complex nose combines ginger, quinine, mint and smoked bacon; a classic example of the cask-fermented wines of this producer. Penetrating, brisk, vibrant and intense, with a strong spicy character. Chewy and concentrated; comes across as smooth and harmonious despite its strong but well-integrated, 1996-like acidity. Clinging, minerally finish is almost painful today.
