About Chateau La Mission Haut Brion

Once a rival of the adjacent Chateau Haut-Brion, La Mission has actually shared ownership with its neighbor since 1983. While just a narrow suburban street divides the two properties--both are located within the city limits of Bordeaux--La Mission's wines maintain their distinctive wilder identity: more powerful and more tannic, often displaying a meaty, truffley character with extended time in bottle.

95 Points | Stephen Tanzer's IWC - July/August 2002

($295-$375) Good full medium red. Exotic yet lively aromas of roasted plum, marzipan and grilled nuts. Wonderfully dense but sappy, with grip of steel. Finishes powerfully tannic and extremely long, still with a touch of youthful austerity. A very impressive showing. Drink 2005 to 2025. (My second bottle was equally impressive but came across as even more backward and dominated by its structure.)

Well balanced, elegant
by Wilfried
TN La Mission Haut Brion, Graves, Bordeaux, France, 1982 (single blind): Brilliant medium garnet, fine tears, tints slightly the glass. Very decent vegetative stink, liquorice, lovage. Medium body, acidity, fruit and tannins very well balanced, elegant. Velvety finish, long. Score: 50 + 3 for optic + 14 for bouquet + 18 for taste + 8 for overall = total score of 93. Had this last time Dec 2003 with more decanting time and a slightly higher score. Missed this time the "obvious truffle note". This means that this wine benefits from decanting - good to know

Full garnet color, the nose is very intense, the wine has plenty of fruit as well as tobacco with soft tannin. Very good !
