1998 Domaine de la Romanee Conti La Tache
About Domaine de la Romanee Conti
Despite this fabled domain's steep prices, its superb bottles are difficult to obtain, as collectors all over the world battle for bottles. Romanée-Conti's history is as rich as its wines: the estate was founded in 1232, when the monks Priory of St. Vincent donated four acres to the local Abbey of Saint-Vivant. Many ownership changes have occured over the course of the last eight centuries, but the current proprietor, Aubert de Villaine, has directed the domaine since 1953. DRC's wines are flamboyantly rich and concentrated yet never heavy, with a spicy, minerally complexity that Pinots from outside Burgundy simply have not yet achieved.

Good red-ruby. Deep, complex nose combines cherry, raspberry, licorice, minerals and spices. Expansive, silky and sweet, but pure and fresh, with lovely incipient complexity and harmonious acidity. Finishes with firm, toothcoating tannins and terrific persistence. Also built for extended aging.
