1975 Chateau Petrus Pomerol

By Stephen TanzerStephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Jul/Aug '02 Rated: 95 Full amber-edged medium red. Knockout decadent nose combines roast coffee, mocha, chocolate, iron, truffle and smoke, along with a leesy nuance that reminded me of a great old Champagne. Hugely sweet and thick with extract, but with great steely grip and huge tannic clout. A classic, somewhat tough, old-style Petrus that should drink well for another 20 years. Perhaps a tad sweeter than the '75 Lafleur. But neither wine is for the fainthearted.
