95-98 Points | International Wine Cellar , May/June 1998

Deep ruby color. Deeply pitched, expressive black raspberry aroma complicated by roasted and gamey nuances. Incredible sweetness in the mouth; not yet as fat as the remarkable '96 below, but perhaps more intensely flavored, if that is possible. Really sensuous texture. Finishes with palate-saturating fruit and a note of shoe polish; the tannins reach all corners of the mouth.
