About Chateau d'Yquem

For centuries Yquem has been unchallenged as the finest example of Sauternes and the most famous sweet wine in the world. A dramatically rich wine of dizzying complexity and extravagant depth, it is capable of aging effortlessly for several decades. Vine yields are tiny, with perfectly botrytized grapes harvested in a number of labor-intensive passes through the vineyard, and the wine undergoes three years or more of aging in new oak barrels. The estate's history dates to 1593, and since 1855, Yquem has existed literaly in a class of its own-- the only wine from Sauternes and Barsac labeled a Premier Cru Supérieur.

5.0 of 5 Stars Truffles, baby!
By BaronMGera, March 25, 2007
There is, in addition to the oft-mentioned flavors and scents, a distinct earthy-truffle essence that transforms itself through a cascade of varying flavors along your tongue for 10 minutes...Ten whole minutes if you can wait that long in between sips...I love this, but any more than a half bottle is too much for two. If the 2001 really is better, I may actually meet God...Enjoy.
5.0 of 5 Stars WOW

I can't believe I drank this bottle already. It capped a wine tasting earlier this month and boy was it fabulous. Everyone was impressed by the complex rich and long lasting flavor shining through in this 1995 vintage of Chateau d'Yquem. Yes, it was way too early to uncork, but irresistable!
5.0 of 5 Stars What price glory?
By Walter A. Kotrba, CWE, December 01, 2001
How nice to get a nose of botrytis after a four year drought! Very full up front with thick, rich apricot, ripe pears and vanilla flavors, lively acid to balance, hints of cream, cinnimon, and brown sugar give the caramelized finale. Vibrant and compelling. "A(+)" March, 2001
5.0 of 5 Stars A Keeper

The '95 Yquem is being compared to the '67 and '90. It has the acid to last like the '67, but it isn't as fat as the '90. Comparisons aren't needed, though. This is a great wine.

Shows incredible potential, with super concentration. Intense but very young and disjointed. Vanilla, creme brulee, sweet caramel and honey. Truly a shame to have drunk it so young. Can't wait to try it again in about 20 years!
