About Nicolas Joly/Coulee de Serrant
Nicholas Joly, often considered the godfather of the biodynamic movement, is known for idiosyncratic, wild, earthy wines. As Joly's policy is strictly hands-off, the wines vary dramatically from vintage to vintage -- one year lean, wiry and austere, the next honeyed and off-dry, the next in a distinctly oxidative style. Approach these wines with an open mind (and wallet). The Coulée de Serrant actually has its own appellation. Not content just to make biodynamic wines, Joly also spreads the gospel as the author of two books on the subject.

Expert Reviews
Tropical fruits, honey, orange peel and clove on the nose. Almost liqueur-like in the mouth, with pear, smoke and earth flavors kept brisk by strong acidity. Quite powerful and a bit alcoholic. Finishes with a suggestion of scotch. Idiosyncratic Savennieres.
