Please dont open this if you have any. I got 6 bottles for$90 but thats still too much.Being WS #1 wine of the year has driven this price out of control.Its still just a Cab and time will tell.
First really big italian wine I ever tasted
Very dark and solid in the glass, dark scents lingering. Taste full, no primary fruit, kind of vegetal, hint of cocoa nut. This is not your usually tuscany red, this is a heavy but very good structured classic. Never drunk anything like this in Italy (I like italian wines), including all the great Barolos.

... but I was expecting more. (Served adjacent to a 1995 Massetto) There were all of the raw materials of very good wine. Soft oak was the first detail. It announced itself from beginning to finish. I was surprised by the relatively light color. Is there enough grape to hold the oak?, I wondered. There were some nicely framed earth, spice, plum and red fruit nuances, all of which were on the shy side. Not audacious. 92 POINTS. 2-2-01

An average wine ?
I had a bottle of a reasonably priced 97 Solaia 2 weeks ago in a restaurant near Grosseto. As a Burgundy-white lover I know I can hardly find reds that are equally satisfying. Although my expectations were not so high then, I was very curious to taste such a highly praised wine.
Well, nothing was wrong with the bottle so it was rather frustrating to discover the wine was just an average red wine not much different from an average Nobile di Montelpulciano. Thumbs down !
