About Chateau Leoville Barton

Leoville-Barton might stand out among the classified estates of Bordeaux for lacking its own chateau, but it's what goes into the wine, not where it's made that really matters. Vinification actually takes place at Château Langoa-Barton, which shares the same ownership, but the estate's vineyards sit on 47 hectares of land between the Gironde and the huge expanse of vineyards belonging to Chateau Talbot. Expect a rich, densely concentrated wine with compelling fruit complexity, enticing inner-mouth perfume and suave tannins. These wines are capable of extended aging but are rarely hard in their youth.

Medium ruby. Very pure aromas of black cherry and licorice, with faint nutty and herbal nuances; comes across as distinctly riper than the Langoa. Dense and chocolatey, with sound acids and underlying minerality giving the flavors impressive clarity. Richly oaky. Finishes long, with big, ripe tannins.

An under rated wine, in my opinion. Youthful, vigorous, and aggressive at this point, it's no where near mature, but is drinking quite well. 92
5.0 of 5 Stars Sensational surprise for Right Bank in 1998.

Shockingly lavish wine for the vintage, a standout in this blind tasting. Plum, anise, cocoa, and a hint of varnish from the new oak, the nose is beguiling. Fat, soft, smooth, and sensual, the ripe plum fruit is rounded by new oak, has a delicate structure of fine acids and tannins, and a finale of licorice and hazelnuts in sweet, ripe plum fruit.
