About Cos d'Estournel
Across the street from Medoc giant Lafite-Rothschild, Chateau Cos d'Estournel stands up well to its famous neighbor. The winery dates back to 1810, when Louis Gaspard d'Estournel christened the site and began producing wine.
1996 Cos d'Estournel Saint Estephe (in double magnum)
Producer: Cos d'Estournel
Style: Red Wine
Grape Type: Bordeaux Blend
Origin: France
Region: Bordeaux
Appellation: Saint Estephe
93-95 Points | International Wine Cellar , May/June 1998
Deep ruby-red. Profound, soil-specific aromas of cassis, redcurrant, graphite and pepper, along with a floral perfume. Penetrating, juicy and very intensely flavored, with terrific backbone and density. Really builds in the mouth. The palate-staining finish features tongue-coating tannins and sappy black cherry flavor. This wine features above-average pH for Cos, but the acidity comes across as firm and fresh.
