About Montsant
This horseshoe-shaped appellation surrounding Priorat enjoys a hot, dry, sheltered, and hilly microclimate but less distinctive soils; only a small portion of this area benefits from the same stony, slatey soil as Priorat. Montsant wines, which are blends often based on Garnacha, have less weight, complexity and class than those from Priorat, but they are also a lot less expensive.
