Often-Overlooked Australian Cabernet Sauvignon

A wine list by Josh Raynolds, Wine Writer, IWC
While the best shiraz from Australia receive deservedly big press, world-class cabernet sauvignon is regularly produced across the country, too. The best examples deliver varietally accurate cabernet character and complexity, with the added dose of richness and powerful fruit that defines Australia's to shiraz bottlings. The tannins of Australian cabernet, outside the cooler western regions, are usually smoother and less intrusive than what one gets from Bordeaux, making these wines very appealing in their youth.
