A Selection of Top Clos Vougeot

In any given year, there are more than 100 different bottlings of Clos Vougeot, Burgundy’s largest grand cru. This 125-acre, walled vineyard, which at one point had remained intact for seven centuries, is now carved up among more than 80 owners, with many of these owners selling their fruit to one or more merchant firms who offer Clos Vougeot under their own labels. Although Clos Vougeot is always expensive, wine quality here can range from the sublime to the ridiculous, depending on the placement of the vines and the vastly different farming and winemaking talents of the many growers and merchants who offer a Clos Vougeot.
