Exquisitely Made Pommard

A wine list by Stephen Tanzer, Wine Writer, IWC
The village of Pommard has long had a reputation for producing solid, tannic red wines that could come across as almost heavy compared to Burgundies from villages on the Cote de Nuits. But that generalization does not describe the best wines being produced in Pommard today, especially those from higher up on the slopes, which are firm but more elegant. Pommard has no grand cru vineyards, but if it did, Rugiens would be the one.
