When we heard of Robert's passing that day, the guys here at work decided to drink a bottle in his honor. I shuffled (yes, I can shuffle) down to the local state store and picked up this classic. True to style, this red is still fashioned in both a New & Old World style. Herbal notes and restrained berry fruit possessing broad shoulders with mellow tannins. A fitting tribute.

A wine I've always walked by in the store but never pulled the triggered. But this time, I had an excuse; it was Father's Day. Since the 2003 was spawned during the hottest vintage in over 200 years, I was skeptical. We decanted for hours and had our first sips with some lamb loin off the rack coated in rosemary and dijon, grilled to perfection. The wine was not showing well. The fruit was dull, some spice lingered but it wasn't integrated. It still retained some structure but the wine stopped evolving. I would love to try the 2001.
