This is a carefully crafted blend of 9 grape varietals: Muller-Thurgau, White Riesling, Semillon, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Muscat Canelli, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Sylvaner. Every new bottling has its own subtle and fresh personality. The 9 grapes tie together perfectly, creating a smooth, layered white wine that can hold its own or stand up to just about any food pairing you dare to serve it with. It is extraordinarily food-friendly. It pairs wonderfully with light salads, seafood (grilled halibut with mango and ginger sauce), shrimp scampi, roast turkey to the hottest fusion-style cuisine (Cajun, spicy Thai, to burritos with salsa verde). Situated in the heart of the Willamette Valley, Oregon, Sokol Blosser is family owned with the second generation taking the helm, farms 72 acres organically, is a biosustainable vineyard, and the first winery in the nation to receive the prestigious LEED certification from the USGBC (United States Green Building Council).

2006 was a brilliant growing season for this outstanding region. This is a fantastic offering from Montsant, the Spanish appellation that could be called the poor person's Priorato. A blend of old vine Mazuelo (40%), Syrah (40%), and Grenache (20%) planted on clay and slate soils, it reveals an inky ruby/purple color, a classic raspberry and black cherry bouquet with hint of violets and rose petals, medium body, wonderful minerality and definition, and surprising freshness as well as intensity for its price.

Mazuelo is the name for Carignan in the Rioja region of northern Spain and it is the third most planted varietal in Spain. It flowers and ripens late, so is best suited for warm climates. Tannic and acidic, Mazuelo is most often used in Spain as a blending grape.

This is a fresh and flavorsome fruit-driven wine. On the nose, initial aromas of violets and sweet berry fruits are meshed with the subtle fragrance of apricot and musk. The palate is fresh with black currant and licorice. Berry-rich mid-palate fruits and a soft even texture lead to a finish of fine-grained tannin.

Warm temperatures at the onset of fermentation and a 3-5 day post fermentation maceration aid in extracting soft, fleshy tannins and building palate structure, giving us a stylishly aromatic wine that finishes with softness and loads of drinkability. It's a great summer red!

It will make for terrific drinking now but will also develop classic aged characteristics over the next 5 years.
