2013 Sandhi Wines Chardonnay Bentrock
Brilliant pale-gold to the rim, infused with mouthwatering aromas of citrus, red pear, toast, and maritime minerality. On the palate, this wine is all at once rich, dense, and plush. Beautifully focused and wound-up, packed with a lush mix of lemon curd and pear, all that rich opulence braced by riveting acid backbone. Drink now in its high-energy youthfulness or lay this one down for 5-7 years.

The 2013 Bentrock Vineyard Chardonnay is another absolutely magical showing from Sandhi. Bentrock is located just three miles west of Sanford and Benedict and consists of younger vines, with lower-yields, resulting in more concentrated fruit. This 2013 is a completely compelling wine, offering complex and stunning aromas which soar from the glass in a magnificent mélange of delicious green apples, asian pear, spring flowers, flinty minerals, lemon cream, vanilla blossom and wet stones. On the palate the wine is extremely pure, full-bodied and layered, with laser-like focus, remarkable complexity and wonderful balance with amazing backend acidity through the remarkably elegant finish. Simply put, this is a terrific example of Chardonnay and a must have for readers who love Chardonnay California or Burgundy. Drinking beautifully now, but certainly worth waiting a bit longer if you can resist.

This is one of the most expensive white wines on the Central Coast, and it’s mighty good, with aromas of cheese rind, lime pith, slate and tiny bits of Marcona almond and oak smoke. It’s laser-focused on the chalky, mineral-laden palate, with poached apples in the midpalate and lemon peels and tangerine rinds throughout.
