Wine Access Clients’ Favorite Châteauneuf-du-Pape Ever
Wine Access Clients’ Favorite Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Ever.
From Xavier Vignon, our all-time favorite Châteauneuf-du-Pape producer, comes a library release of his top cuvée — 2011 “Cuvée Anonyme X” which Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate called “a hidden gem in the vintage” and awarded 95 points. Anonyme is only made in select vintages and this 2011 boasts a “full-bodied” “thrillingly concentrated” wine produced from 90-year-old vines that eke out miniscule amounts of massively concentrated juice. Just as the Advocate was “blown away by these current and new releases” from Xavier, we too are mesmerized by the opulence of this library wine — “Fashioned from the best fruit from old vines planted in the finest parcels,” as Robert Parker explained in his review of the first vintage of this wine (the 2007, which earned 96 points).
Xavier Vignon is a recognized star of the Southern Rhône, although he prefers to keep a relatively low profile. We were first introduced to super-enologist Xavier Vignon one evening late in 2008. That evening, we tasted a complete lineup of some of the most voluptuous, but also beautifully honed, southern Rhone reds of the monumental 2007 vintage. Since then, we offered four vintages of Xavier’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape “Cuvée Anonyme X” — a wine that has garnered more 5-star reviews from Wine Access clients than any CdP in our history
