“This Is What Old-Vine Zinfandel Should Be”
“This Is What Old-Vine Zinfandel Should Be”
When we read the rave review from Martin Sheehan-Stross, Head Sommelier for Michael Mina Restaurant, of this 2015 Baron Cooper Old Vine Zinfandel, we had to try it ourselves. After all, as sommelier for one of San Francisco’s top Michelin-starred restaurants, Martin gets to try all of the world’s best wines. “This is what old-vine Zinfandel should be,” he gushed — a bold endorsement, but he was right on the money. Sourced from vines planted up to 100 years ago, this is a great example of Zinfandel as it was meant to be — bold, rich, creamy, with wild-berry, licorice, and spiced chocolate flavors. It’s pure hedonistic pleasure in a bottle. Just about the only other place you’ll find this wine is the winery itself, at $27.99; we have it today for $19.99 per bottle.
Greg Burns’ viticultural bloodline stretches five generations, back to when his family started growing grapes in the 1880s. One secret that has passed from generation to generation is that Zinfandel performs best when it is “bush-trained” — untamed and unfettered, resembling a gnarly and wild bush. And 40- to 100-year-old ungrafted bush-trained vines yield some of the most intensely complex, natural expressions of Zinfandel. The proof is in this decadent and layered Baron Cooper.
Locking into bottles of this Baron Cooper does more than just supply you with a delicious wine — “Baron Cooper” was named for a winery dog and a percentage of each sale is donated to Best Friends Animal Society, a nationwide animal rescue non-profit. We’re proud to be able to help support this organization’s vital work. Secure your share and be part of these great efforts.
