    The Perfect Food Wine

Our Head of Wine Vanessa called this aromatic, bright wine, “The perfect food wine.”

Crafted by Brianne Day, one of Oregon’s most exciting winemakers, the Vin de Days is loosely modeled after the classic Alsatian field blend called Edelzwicker, which typically contains Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Muscat. On the table, this ethereal, sprightly white from Oregon’s coolest estate is perfect counterpoint to fare from sushi to steak.

For the value, we challenge you to find another $15 American white that so perfectly captures the verve, vibrancy, and aromatic floral delicacy of a top Alsatian white like this 2017 Vin de Days Blanc from the Willamette Valley.

Day is a natural wine pioneer whose expertly crafted, Burgundy-influenced bottles have incited a firestorm of critical praise in the New York Times, Wine Spectator, and Wine & Spirits, and earned her a place on Wine Enthusiast’s 40 Under 40 Tastemaker list in 2017. Walk into your favorite bottle shop in Brooklyn, Los Angeles, or San Francisco, and odds are you’ll find a Day wine on the shelf; her pet-nat Mamacita and Johan Vineyard Pinot Noir practically have cult followings.

Brianne Day’s first vintage of just 125 cases sold out immediately; she now makes a few thousand. Famously, it was a grapevine tattoo on her arm that caught the attention of a customer while she was waiting tables at Portland’s Little Bird—one of four jobs she was working to afford her second harvest. After learning about her vision to start a winery, the customer became a patron and investor, and her business has skyrocketed since.

The Vin de Days Blanc is the perfect example of her offbeat, intuitive style, which emphasizes the versatility of Oregon terroir. A seamlessly integrated blend of white grapes from six top Willamette Valley sites—including Anne Amie, Twelve Oaks, Momtazi, Meredith Mitchell, Nemarniki, and Le Beau—each contributes to the form and personality of this vivacious bottle. The resulting wine is pinpoint-focused, but round and soft on the palate with a hint of richness and white peach sweetness. It all adds up to an exceptionally food-friendly white that we cannot recommend highly enough.
