Côte de Beaune Classic
Etienne Sauzet, a name synonymous with high-quality, elegant, Burgundian Chardonnay, has been a torchbearer in the Côte de Beaune for generations. In the 20th century Etienne inherited and bought several plots of vines in the village of Puligny-Montrachet and today is still a family-run operation.
When Jeanine Boillot, Sauzet's granddaughter, and her husband managed the domaine, they made many modernizations including improved vinification techniques and biodynamic farming. Today the domaine has been passed to their daughter Emilie and her husband, who continue to produce white wines that are among the most sought-after in all of Burgundy.
Despite the changing hands and the improvments to the farming and winemaking over the years, the house style has remained true. The wines are all estate bottled and spend copious time on the lees giving a creamy and rich texture. The Grand Cru bottlings can edge up towards four digits, and are well-deserving of those price tags. The 2018 Etienne Sauzet Champ Gain Premier Cru Puligny-Montrachet is a prime example of power and elegance from a renowned vineyard and without the Grand Cru expense. We are so excited to be able to share this tiny allocation with you.
