    Rosé From Top Carneros Vineyards

    The Rosé That Means Business

Recently, we headed up-valley to Solage for our annual afternoon in the sun with Timothy, our friend and proprietor of a Napa cult winery, and the man who handed us the keys to the Hidden Ridge cellar.

Timothy is a regular at Solage, the upscale Calistoga resort where Napa’s finest go to see and be seen, and had promised us a wine-filled, work-free afternoon by the pool. But he had something up his sleeve:

“Try this,” he commanded when we arrived, pointing to a tray with three opaque wine glasses, without moving from his chaise lounge. Before we could protest he raised a hand and said, “It’s not work, I promise.”

No sooner were his words spoken than aromas of raspberry, strawberry, ripe melon, and peach leaped into the air, as he handed us ice-cold glasses filled with a deep pink elixir. Rich but light on its feet, the rosé was packed with juicy red cherry, melon, and kiwi, with a crisp and refreshing orange-zest and grapefruit finish. This was far from the average Provençal-style rosés that abound today. We were hooked.

This is a crowd-pleaser that everyone will get, sourced from premier vineyards. Prime Pinot Noir grapes were sourced from one of Wine Spectator’s “serious” Sonoma wineries, and also from one of the oldest continuously operating wineries in Carneros, which Wine & Spirits magazine named a “Year’s Best Pinot” frontrunner. Together, they put bright, just-picked red berry flavors at the forefront in a wine that’s the opposite of featherweight rosés. Piece of Work is a powerful, ruby wine with flavor for days and the body to give reds a run for their money from now until Thanksgiving.

From the source wineries, these bottles command $29, but today, we’ve got the exclusive for Wine Access members on the 2018 Piece of Work Rosé, at the knockout price of $12 per bottle.

A friend of Timothy’s had crafted this bold, unapologetic rosé from one of top vineyard sources in an outstanding vintage. Together, the sites form an irresistible rosé—a red wine drinker’s rosé—that’s bursting with just-picked fruit, cream, and white pepper.
