The Mother’s Day Gift You’ll Want For Yourself

Four bottles from you plus a bottle from us

Choosing a Mother’s Day gift is never easy — it always feels like it won’t live up to the impact moms have on our world. While we can’t promise that our 2018 Mother’s Day wine set will let the moms in your life know just how grateful you are for everything they do, we’re pretty certain we’ve hand-selected four wines that won’t fail to impress. And we’re tossing in a complimentary 92-point rosé. After hitting “buy,” hand mom a corkscrew and let her know she’ll be needing it this summer. Or if you’re a mom thinking about treating yourself, just let the family know these bottles are yours. You deserve it.

4+1 Mother’s Day Wine Set Includes:

2015 Vermillion Red Wine

A winemaker cannot live by Cabernet alone, though one winemaker — Helen Keplinger —  absolutely could spend her entire career on that variety alone, if that was her desire. Just look at this Napa Valley superstar’s stewardship of Grace Family Vineyards (California’s original cult Cabernet winery) along with past success at Bryant Family and Kenzo Estate. In 2012, Keplinger was honored as Food & Wine Magazine’s “Winemaker of the Year” and just two years later, she landed on the cover of Wine Spectator. But the great press wasn’t just for her mastery of Bordeaux varieties; instead, the critical spotlight shined equally on Grenache and the other Rhône-centric wines she produces under her eponymous label, Keplinger Wines.

NV Michel Turgy Champagne Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut Reserve Selection

It takes just four words to get a serious Champagne collector’s heart beating: Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Two of history’s most legendary Champagne producers are located there: Salon, the elite house whose rare releases (only four vintages per decade, on average) are some of the most highly sought-after in the business; and Krug, whose famous 1.85-acre Clos du Mesnil vineyard yields a Champagne that easily fetches $700 a bottle. But don’t fret: Domaine Michel Turgy delivers a seductive NV Reserve Grand Cru that Vinous calls “smooth, sweet, and expansive on the palate.”

2016 Arietta Quartet Sauvignon Blanc

Out of the thousands of wines we tasted this year, the 2016 Arietta “Quartet” Sauvignon Blanc is our #1 White Wine of 2017. Our Master Wine Team rated it 95 points. This nearly impossible to find wine from Arietta was crafted by 100-point winemaker Andy Erickson, formerly of Screaming Eagle. Arietta’s wines grace the luminary wine lists of Michelin-starred restaurants like Per Se, The Modern, Jean-Georges, Blue Hill at Stone Barns, The French Laundry, and The Restaurant at Meadowood Napa Valley — just to name a few. This inaugural release of “Quartet” Sauvignon Blanc, with illustrious vineyard sources from Carneros and hillside Sonoma Mountain, is among the most distinctive premium white wines from Napa Valley, and around the world.

NV Akarua Methode Traditionelle Rose

Exclusive: When Decanter gives a Champagne-style méthode traditionnelle rosé 95 points, praising its “very refined” mousse and “creamy” texture, adding that the wine is “complex and sophisticated” with “vibrant” red fruit and “savory brioche,” we expected a hefty three-digit retail price tag to follow. As our Chief Wine Officer, Matt Deller MW dug deeper, he uncovered more accolades: The Drinks Business, put this wine at the number 5 spot on their “10 Best Sparkling Rosés in the World” list, calling it a “class act, with all the finesse and complexity of fine Champagne.” Pile on 10 gold medals from international competitions, 94-points from the venerable Cameron Douglas MS who called it “luscious, fruity, floral and focused” and ask who is responsible for all this? Dr. Tony Jordan — one of the preeminent sparkling winemakers in the world, whose CV includes long stints at Moet Hennessy’s Domaine Chandon, Cape Mentelle and Cloudy Bay. We are thrilled to offer this highly-lauded, bright red-berry and toasty brioche Akarua Méthode Traditionelle Rosé NV — the only place you’ll find it in the U.S. thanks to Matt Deller MW’s relationship with the winery.

2016 Domaine de la Mordoree Tavel Rose La Dame Rousse

* Complimentary bonus bottle *

Robert Parker’s former Rhône reviewer for The Wine Advocate, Jeb Dunnuck, describes this delicious rosé in his 92-point review as, “Always one of my favorite Rosés in just about every vintage.” He continues, “the 2016 Tavel La Dame Rousse smells like [a] basket of freshly picked strawberries and raspberries. It shows the richer side of the vintage, yet is clean, crisp and refreshing, with bright acidity.” Dunnuck caps off his review with the highest praise we’ve seen for a rosé: “Hats off to this estate for consistently delivering one of finest Rosés in the world, year in, year out.” Wine & Spirits also awarded it 92 points calling it “textbook Tavel.”  Such rave reviews are unsurprising from perhaps the greatest protagonist of Tavel — the “Rosé of Kings.”
