    The Ultimate Sake

This is one of our favorite sakes, a singular bottling that delivers richness and complexity. We’ve loved this release for years because it delivers a style like no other, simultaneously showcasing power and delicacy in an inimitable one-two punch.

The sommeliers and restaurateurs have spoken too: Katafune is a standby at Michelin-starred hotspots including The French Laundry and SingleThread as a tasting-menu mainstay as well as a by-the-glass favorite. This bottling has also been recognized globally, winning Best Sake at the Las Vegas Global Spirits Competition, and twice claiming the highest award from the International Wine Challenge.

Complex aromatics rise from the glass, drawing you in with citrus and floral aromas. On the palate, this powerful sake switches gears, delivering a rich, weighty mouthfeel accented with bursts of citrus, minerality, and fresh herbal tones. A full-bodied wonder, it’s at once powerful yet light on its feet—the Muhammad Ali of sakes.

Takeda San, the man behind this liquid magic, is recognized globally for this pioneering style of sake, which he crafts with a unique brewing process and pure mountain snowmelt from Niigata (we refer to Niigata as "Japan’s Napa Valley”).

When we first visited the Katafune brewery, we’d expected a high-tech, glistening, stainless-steel operation, but what we found was an artisanal workshop complete with fermenting experiments and the energy of an inventor. “There is no recipe,” Takeda San said. “I wait and taste until the sake is perfect before we bottle it.”

Now that it’s finally arrived on US shores, we’re thrilled to share it with you. Whether you’re a sake aficionado or a novice exploring the wine-like complexities of this incredible beverage, there’s no better bottle to open right now.
