2009 Chateau Leoville Barton Saint-Julien
The 2009 Léoville Barton is a massively powerful, incredibly rich blend from a historic Bordeaux vintage. Deep crimson in the glass. Graceful aromas of plum, blackberries and violets deepen into forest floor, truffle and cigar smoke. Full-bodied and muscular, the palate explodes with red cherry, violet, mesmerizing minerality and chocolate. Sturdy, fine-grained tannins are only starting to soften, promising exceptional longevity. The finish is fresh, persistent, and utterly classic.
96 Points James Suckling
Very floral, with fresh mushrooms and currants on the nose. Full body, with powerful tannins, yet polished and refined. Lovely length. Vibrant acidity. Well structured. Try after 2018.
95 Points Wine Spectator
This is powerful Cabernet, with gutsy weight, but also polished feel to the fresh plum, warm blackberry sauce, bittersweet ganache and roasted apple wood notes. Long and tarry through the finish, but still invigorating despite its heft. Needs some time to round fully into form. Best from 2017 through 2035.
