Groth will forever be remembered for its record breaking 1985 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, the first California wine to receive a 100-point score from Robert Parker. Only three years after the vineyard was established, owners Dennis and Judy Groth churned out a superstar which put them on page one of the Napa Valley history books. Unfortunately, this Oakville estate has not kept up the prodigious standard it set in the mid '80s. A series of uninspiring vintages followed Groth's meteoric rise, but today, quality seems to be recovering -- albeit slowly. Michael Weis, winemaker since 1994, has managed to craft a consistently satisfying Sauvignon Blanc, with melon and citrus fruit flavors, supple texture and a firm backbone.
