About Domaine Jacques-Frederic Mugnier
From 13.5 hectares in Chambolle-Musigny, Freddy Mugnier produces elegant, silky Pinot Noirs that perfectly capture the sappy red berry and mineral character of the region. Not bad for a guy who served as an airline pilot until 2000. The vineyard here only covered about 4 hectares until 2004, when Domaine Faiveley's lease on Mugnier's 9.55 hectare Nuits St. George 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale expired. This addition more than tripled Mugnier's holdings, forcing him to build a winery and employ several more staff. Despite the recent expansion, Mugnier is as true to the terroir as ever. His aim is always to let the fruit speak for itself, taking a hands off approach in the vineyard and the cellar.
