About Georges Duboeuf
Georges Duboeuf Facts
No other wine region of France is so dominated by a single firm as is Beaujolais by Duboeuf. Many blame Georges Duboeuf for the proliferation of Beaujolais Nouveau bottlings and the debased reputation of the region, but there is quality here as well. The dozens of bottlings each year emphasize sweetness and supple textures, and prices are extremely reasonable. Duboeuf's top grower-designated bottlings tend to be a bit more serious. The firm also does plenty of work elsewhere in Burgundy and in the Rhone Valley.

Georges Duboeuf started selling wine as an 18 year old, delivering bottles from producers to restaurants throughout Burgundy and Macon. It wasn't long before Dubouef found himself bottling Beaujolais, leading him to the creation of a growers' syndicate called the Ecrin Maconnais-Beaujolais. After the dissolution of the syndicate, in 1964, Georges went on to found his own negociant company, Les Vins Georges Duboeuf.
The rest is history -- today Les Vins Georges Duboeuf puts out over 2.5 million cases of wine each year. In 2003, Duboeuf opened a brand new winery in Romanèche-Thorins, and in 2004, along with the Deutsch family, purchased Chatea des Capitans in Julienas. Though Georges maintains a very active role in the company, as he approaches 80, his son, Franck Duboeuf has been assuming leadership at the firm.
