I was introduced to this wine in El Paso, TX by a Spaniard and have loved it ever since. Was pleased to find it at Total Wine-McLean.
There does seem to be a 'cork problem'; mine came out in small pieces. This is a very mellow, soft, not especially fruity version of the varietal - very pleasant and should match well with a wide variety of foods.
First of all--Total Wine took care of me by replacing the bottle (refund since I did not want the same). A shame what is going on with Condado de Haza. I visited the winery and love their wine, but the wines getting to the U.S. are bad. In 1998 I threw away a whole case of the 1996 and now I decided to try the 2001 since it was a good year. Well, the cork was totally wet (just like the case in 1998) and the wine tasted like vinegar. I have a controlled wine cellar so it is not me. Either the distributor is doing something wrong, or the winery has a problem with corks.--what a shame...
