A lovely dessert wine, as good as Steve Tanzer claimed.
A great waiter attending to my wife and I at "The Studio" on Hilton Head Island offered a gift of a glass of this fine wine to cap off our anniversary dinner at the restuarant. What a gift to enjoy and discover this incredible wine. And this from a couple who rarely enjoys dessert wines. I tracked down the wine and bought a case when we returned home and am working on my local wine store to stock it here (since in Alabama we can't easily buy online). If you can find it, buy it and you'll buy it again.
I tried a bottle of this extraordinary muscat and grew to love it so much. This Muscat adds a sweet and refined note to my green herbs salad dressing, green peppercorn steak sauces, and Strawberries compote. I must order more!
Tremendously rich, bursting at the seams. Think date syrup and crushed walnuts. Endless finish that gets progressively more walnut/walnut skin as it goes on. Impressive. Very similar to the Buller Premium Fine Tokay but the finish on this one seems endless.
Big, thick, sweet mouthful of carmel with a chocolate touch and a hint of musk. Overly viscous to my taste, not quite enough to pop the flavor forward. I favor the orange hint of the Yalumba Museum, though this is still a luscious sip. I have more reviews at spiritofwine.blogspot.com
Thick, rich and smooth, though a tad cloying (for my taste) with some mustiness in the nose.
A very smooth Desert Muscat that excellently compliments a final course with its delicious texture. My father and I enjoyed this muscat so much the first time we opened a bottle he brought back from australia, we both bought cases (Note: For those in the region, the Carolina Wine Company in Cary, NC offered it for $84.00/case (December 2003). At that price, I bought two. True Story: At a recent dinner party we opened up 1982 and 1985 burgandies for our guests, fellow wine connasieurs, and then eventually moved on to dessert. In lieu of fine port (which nowadays are climbing into ridiculously high price ranges), we brought out a couple bottles of this rich desert muscat to rave reviews. With quality Port becomming so difficult to stock for a reasonable price, I highly recommend this Australian Muscat in its stead.
Not as good as Yalumba's Museum, which has a bit better integration and sophistication form my taste, but still quite nice at $12/bottle. Caramel, candied citrus rind, honey, and a touch of ginger on the nose. Very clean tasting with a bit of a boozy finish, but hey, it's a dessert wine. Serve with cheesecake and be very happy.
