I opened a bottle this evening;it is a big wine, silky, spicy and is high in acidity. Exceptionally good length. Will surely develop into an outstanding wine after further bottle age. Believe it or not,I like it more than the 1997 Penfold Grange. Given its good value, I suggest Syrah lovers stock up some and no one will be disappointed. I hope the 2003 vintage will even turn out better.
Full bodied and silky in the mouth with blackberry, blueberry, cappuccino, and chocolate with underlying minerality and persistent finish with balanced tannins. Seems to be higher in acidity than the 2001 and not quite so dense and syrupy. I was hoping for a little more complexity, but this wine is somewhat monolithic. Hopefully, with some bottle age, the flavors in this wine will become more delineated. I liked the 2001 more, although I only tasted it once and I was already drunk. This is a good wine, but at this time warrants no more than 93-94 points.
