Michael Honig was 22 when he took over management of his family's vineyard. His grandfather, Louis, had bought the property in 1964 with the dream of making Honig wine, but sadly, died before he could. So Michael, working out of an old tractor barn and a meat locker, took up his grandfather's dream. Today, Honig makes two wines of note on 68 acres in the heart of Rutherford: a solid Cabernet Sauvignon -- would it really be a Napa producer without one? -- and a racy, but round, fruity and easy going Sauvignon Blanc, easily the star of the show. The prices are also quite reasonable.
