The 2006 Ladera was my "go to" wine for special occassions this year. It started with a Ground Breaking ceremony in Shanghai... where thanks to our local Napa importer, I was able to buy a case for this gala event. It was a huge hit. Our Chinese (and Western) guests were more than impressed. Then for a special dinner at home...12 people demolished 4 bottles thanks to my purchase from Wine Access (silly me, I thought the 6 bottles I bought would last a while). When the '07 came up... I had to buy a full case of it. I am hoping that with some cellaring it too will make all my guests smile over the coming years.
Enjoyed this after a 2007 Chappellet Prichard Hill and it held up very well. This will be my go to holiday wine for years to come. Very good! DBG
Saddened by the news that this vineyard has changed hands. This wine is one of the grandest I've ever tasted!!
I allowed this some bottle age and it has paid off handsomely. Opened a 750 tonight and it went down all too easily. Surprisingly smooth and drinkable upon opening (splash decanted) and a perfect match with dinner. This is a classic example of mountain cabernet; the fruit is beginning to take center stage and it's sensational. I will exercise even more patience with the magnums I have of this one. I'm glad I bought as much as I did in each format.
I have enjoyed several vintage years of this wonderful cab. I have never been disappointed. The tannins are subdued, flavor smoothe and enjoyable.
Deep, full fruit flavor with a tannins just beginning to soften. A nice long finish. Expect to improve with another couple of years in the bottle.
Ladera's Howell Mt. Cabs are solid year after year. Fortunately, I ordered enough of this one that it has become one of our regular "go-tos". Great fruit, solid tannins, just a beautiful bottle to look forward to.
Surprisingly smooth with a good long finish
