Wish I had bought more
I haven't gone wrong with any of the Xavier wines!
This was a great buy. The wine is earthy and elegant. Very nice.
An excellent wine for the price. Well balanced; flavorful dark fruit with a long silky finish. I've tried to source some of Xavier's other wines without success.
Deep purple fruit and lots of structure. Tasted even better after being open a couple of hours. Winner.
I found this wine has a lot of great flavor that got better the longer it was opened. I purposely tried the first bottle, a little at a time, at different time intervals, the first of which was about 2 hours after I uncorked it. The next time was about 12 hours later, and the last try was about 36 hours later. Each time it seemed to mellow further, and tasted better each time (at least on my palate). I highly recommend this wine, if still available.
First bottle in Oct '12 was tight and relatively unrewarding. The next one in Jan '14 was smoother, broader, longer; very nice. Rating based on the second bottle.
Getting better with age, I just opened a bottle and let it decante for 2 hrs. The intense dark fruits on the palate are complimented with spice and a rich earthy note. The next night it was even better with a finish that lingers.
Not bad for the price.
Some of the bottles seem noticeably better than others, a couple were spoilt by overwhelming note of mold and soil. Others better and more complex, but this is my least favorite of the Xavier wines.
The first wine from WA I've thrown out. I bought a case, too.. Tasted like mold and dirt. Yuck!
Deep rich color, slightly spicy, but fair amount of mold, and soil,so much that I could not finish the bottle.
