About Domaine de la Voute des Crozes/Nicole Chanrion
Founded in 1861, the tiny Domaine de la Voute des Crozes is located in the rocky Cote-de-Brouilly appellation in the northern Beaujolais. Today, the domaine is run by Nicole Chanrion, who took the over from her father in 1988. Though she interned in Napa, Nicole has a decidedly old-school approach to winemaking, working all of the domain's 6.5 hectares by herself from seed to bottle. Her wines showcase the appellation and the Gamay grape at its most succulent, lush and spicy. There's plenty of pure red berry fruit in these wines, along with great balance, texture, and hints of earthiness. With an annual production of 2,500 cases, however, not much makes it stateside.
